It is with great sadness that another martial arts icon has passed away. Jerry Poteet was one of Bruce Lee's original students and was considered one of the biggest advocates for promoting Bruce Lee's philosophy of Jeet Kune Do throughout the world. His legacy, his wisdom and his dedication to the arts shall forever be remembered.

- Michael Matsuda, president Martial Arts History Museum

Aiki Productions sends all of Sifu Poteet's family, friends, and students well wishes and Sifu Poteet passes to the beyond. May he rest in peace and his teachings be remembered forever.

An 18-year study of seniors found that regular meditation lowers overall death rates by 23 percent and death rates from heart disease and cancer by more than 30 percent. The same study suggests meditation can help lower blood pressure and speed healing. Although no formal studies have been conducted, meditation seems to help relieve stress, foster personal relationships and lead to a better quality of life.

Breathing and walking meditation, mindfulness, positive visualization - no matter what you call it, it's as important to real-world survival as your physical skills are. If you training doesn't include formal meditation, consider seeking out instruction on your own. Better yet, help your sensei find someone who can teach it in-house.

Joe Lewis Doing Well

October 24, 2011

I have been a bouncer for 24 years, so I need to know how to controll and escort people out of situations and not hurt them. So if you are a bouncer , security guard , corrections officer, or cop this DVD is for you. I recently recieved Alain Burrese's Lock On Joint Locking Essentials volume 4 Finger Locks in the mail . Now I usually watch and review these vidoes type of videos right away but I decided to give it a little whilee and practice the techniques shown in Burrese's video . Well well well I was not dissapointed. I have used several of the techniques shown to escort overzealous patrons out of the bar. Now I wasnt able to do them text book perfect , but thats ok , they worked just like they were supposed to.

This is one of the main selling points to me about Burrese and his teaching skills. He gives you the tools to use to make it work. There is none of the "This is the only way to do this" , no its not. The work place and reality is not the Dojo, situations change, individuals are different, your abilities can be hindered by your enviroment. Alain's teaching basic FUNDAMENTAlS . Not set in stone laws. He gives you different scenarios and the ideas to use if you find yourself in a bad place. Work the skill sets taught and I dont beleive you will be dissapointed.

A great Judoka Phil Porter Sensei died today. He enriched many lives. Please keep his family in your prayers.

It is safe to say that there is no other person alive in the world today who has had so varied and comprehensive a career of achievement in Judo and the Martial Arts as Philip S. Porter. In every field of endeavor involved in Judo; from coaching, teaching and national and international leadership positions to writing, refereeing and building the theoretical framework of Judo, he has excelled. His competitive career spanned 50 years, culminating with four US National Masters Gold medals in winning which he never lost a match.

While these simple yet highly effective joint locks are from hapkido they can be adapted easily to any martial arts style. Not only can they be adapted, they SHOULD be adapted to complete one's fighting art.

Not every physical encounter necessitates a violent--punch, kick, claw--response. Sometimes a simple wrist or finger lock communicates clearly that the threat is out of line. A punch or kick might get you sued, a simple joint lock most likely won't. As Larry the Cable Guy says, "Get 'er done," and that is exactly what these techniques do without causing debilitating harm.

Alain's teaching approach is clear, concise and without unnecessary mysticism or superfluous movements. For those who say that joint lock techniques don't work...apparently yours don't but Alain Burrese's do.

Get this DVD. Solid info and, unlike a lot of how-to-do martial art DVDs on the market, you can easily learn from this one.

Loren W.
